July 4, 2008

I bought my newest digital camera, a Canon Powershot A590, because I needed something pocket-sized to replace my Sony Cybershot DSC-P200 that has developed a couple of spots that can ruin some photos. I just got the Canon in June and am trying it out as often as I can to see what it can and can't do.

On July 4, our town had fireworks -- and we can see most of them from our front porch. The new camera has a "fireworks" mode with anti-shake that claims to be effective even without a tripod. I don't believe that, but I wanted to see what it could do. Of course, had I used manual settings and a tripod the images would have been more perfect -- but that said, I absolutely love the "artsy" look that came out on the fly, so to speak. All the fireworks images in this gallery were taken on the same night with the same camera.
