We crossed the bridge to the Outer Banks just before 10 a.m. on Sunday, first driving down Route 12 along the Cape Hatteras National Seashore to get some photos of the historic Bodie Island Lighthouse. It's undergoing extensive repairs that are slated for completion by next summer; by the summer after that at the latest, the tower will be open to the public for climbing after many years. We wanted to capture the renovations.

Our house this year was in Duck, on the northern end of the Outer Banks. Our friends Pete and Carole, who often spend the week with us, met up with us Sunday afternoon at the Scarborough Faire shopping center. We had a couple of beers (Yuengling, of course) at Fishbones Restaurant before getting the keys and moving in. The house was less than 30 yards from the ocean, complete with a private walkway and deck seating at the top of the dunes.
