This year, we decided to spend two nights on the road on our way to the Outer Banks. The first stop was in Bedford, Pennsylvania. Arriving fairly early in the afternoon, we found Old Bedford Village, a wonderful recreated Colonial village with 50-plus buildings, costumed interpreters and more. The second night was spent in Suffolk, Virginia -- didn't have time to do much there except have a great dinner at the Texas Steak House.
