William McKinley, the 25th President of the United States, was born in Niles, Ohio -- where I live -- on Jan. 29, 1843. This national memorial, which houses a public library in the left wing and a McKinley museum in the right, is made of Georgian marble. A sculpture of McKinley stands in the center, and it is surrounded by bronze busts of members of McKinley's cabinet and other distinguished men who were closely associated with him. This afternoon we stopped in front so I could get this for today's One-a-Day group.
