Salt of the Earth: July 18
Ever wonder where Ohio gets the salt to put on winter roads? Much of it comes from a Morton Salt mine in Fairport Harbor, according to a 2016 article in Wired magazine. The salt mines are some 2,000 feet below Lake Erie. When we were in Fairport Harbor and Headlands Beach today, I got a photo of a Morton Salt tower and train engine (it's close to the entrance of Headlands Beach State Park).
