Braced: Sept 22

Yesterday afternoon, my thumb to about a quarter of the way up my arm started to throb painfully and didn't let up. I was unable to grasp anything or hold anything heavier than a pencil. A quick Google of symptoms led me immediately to a self-diagnosis of De Quervain's Tendinosis, which is a type of repetitive strain injury similar to carpel tunnel. Not wanting to sit in a clinic office amid the virus, I learned that almost all of the initial treatment is icing, wearing a thumb/wrist brace, gentle exercises and (sigh!) rest for up to 6 weeks. Got a brace today at Rite-Aid (which, thanks to a coupon earned Monday by getting our flu shots, gave me 5 bucks off). So now, time will tell. If it doesn't ease up, there's a possibility of a cortisone shot and, way down the line, surgery.
