If you flew like a crow and headed North from our house, you'd be swimming in Lake Erie in about an hour, probably somewhere along the Ashtabula or Conneaut, Ohio, shores. Head West from there, and a couple of hours later you've passed downtown Cleveland and can be riding a coaster at Cedar Point Amusement Park, gazing at the much-photographed Marblehead Lighthouse or enjoying a perch dinner at a restaurant in Port Clinton.
Hop aboard a ferry for another 20 minutes or so, and you're sunning yourself in Put-in-Bay on South Bass Island, one of the storied Lake Erie Islands (Kelleys Island is another favorite -- that's where you'll find glacial grooves and where part of the Christopher Reeve tear-jerker Somewhere in Time was filmed).
A bit further West is Toledo, where you can enjoy the new Glass Pavilion at the Toledo Museum of Art, romp on the beach at Maumee Bay State Park or chow down on hot dogs at Tony Packo's Cafe downtown.
All along the way, of course, are the shores of Lake Erie. We've been to most of the "hot spots" -- many, many times -- and some of the treasures we've seen along the way will be documented here, starting mostly with 2008 just to keep the photos to a manageable level. Enjoy!
