Welcome to my photographic world! From our home in northeast Ohio, my husband Jack and I love to branch out to other parts of the country to find some of our favorite subjects, like lighthouses, old grist mills and other historic sites, local, state and national parks and my "specialty," colorful flowers and plants. The galleries here showcase some of our travels (as well as my family, friends, favorite pets and some of the awards I've been fortunate to win along the way) in the hope that visitors will be encouraged to go see for themselves. I hope you'll take some time to browse around, and questions and comments are welcome!

I'm a semi-retired newspaper editor, journalist and amateur photographer who keeps busy with freelance writing and photography projects. My husband and I love to travel, and our favorite destinations include the North Carolina Outer Banks, the coast of Maine and the western coastline and Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I write several blogs, including my latest, a celebration of the great cuisine that's available in northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania called Mahoning Valley Eats & Treats. A second blog is an ongoing compilation of poems written by my late father, Harold A. Pickett (aka "Slim Acres"), who published several books over the 96 years of his lifetime and was a well-known public speaker throughout Ohio, Indiana and Michigan. The blog is titled The Best of Slim Acres and features a new entry each Sunday. Two more blogs have joined the party - one titled Ready, Set, Read (book reviews) and another featuring the beauty of Mill Creek MetroParks, a real treasure in Mahoning County, Ohio.
Our family includes two grown children, Scott and Christine, and four grandchildren: Cassandra, Alexandra, Jacklyn Rose and Jarrett Allen. We've made our home in northeastern Ohio for many years -- Go Bucks!

Guestbook for Monnie Ryan
Monnie Ryan
I'll answer the comments from Aug. 8, 2017, all at once here simply because I don't know any of you and whether or not your comments are legitimate. First, to Mitchell and Seeley, I have the basic Zenfolio gallery, which does not cost $100 a year (I believe it's $60 now). And yes, I love it. My purpose here is to showcase my photos and record some of life's memorable experiences, not to sell (I do that on websites like Redbubble and Fine Art America, where I've enjoyed moderate success).
To Rochell: The white flower that glows (and any others similar to it in my galleries) was done by applying a special filter called Fractalius. There used to be a free version for download, but I believe it must be purchased now.
To Fred: By and large, I do minimal editing to my photos (by that I mean possible lightening, straightening, cropping and always a bit of sharpening for those I post online. No, that's not much, but they certainly are not totally "unedited."

I contacted you via Goodreads, but had to check out your site because I'm a shutterbug as well. Outstanding! I'm in awe of those flowers. There is one of a white flower (don't know the name) that glows! How did you do that?

Very nice work you have created. Love all of your pictures. I am thinking about uploading to Zenfolio and wanted to know your thoughts. Do you sell many of you photos? Is it worth the 100.00 a year?

What I loved about your photographs was the quality that you have maintained even without any sort of editing. I always prefer to see photographs of places, which are unedited, So that the soul of the picture will not be lost.
