Ever since February, when we lost our wonderful, much-loved son Scott, I've wanted to plant a tree in the back yard of the beautiful home he and his wife, Lilla, made possible for us to live in. For months, I wavered back and forth about the kind of tree I wanted, but finally - with tree-planting weather fast disappearing - I knew it was now or next spring. So, son-in-law Jerry took me to look at Home Depot, and right away, I found it: A flowering plum I'd seen earlier in the summer that now was on sale. Jerry spent a fair amount of time yesterday getting it in the ground next to the bird feeders, where we can see it from the deck.
