Tools of the ER Trade: July 22

After getting shocks twice from his defibrillator but otherwise feeling fine, Jack went to the ER at Trumbull Memorial Hospital around 5 p.m. (at the advice of the Cleveland Clinic). We waited, and waited, till a tech rep from the device company came and said it needed reprogramming but otherwise his signs were good.

But then, our internist wanted him to stay overnight for observation, and that's when the nightmare started. We waited in the ER for more than 5 hours - till 1:30 a.m. - for them to "find" him a bed. In the end, he was put in a room on a wing that had only one other patient - all the other rooms, which had beds, were empty. Total cluster****!
