The Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial, a national park, is perhaps the focal point of South Bass Island. Commemorating Oliver Hazard Perry's victory in the Battle of Lake Erie in the War of 1812, it is one of the tallest memorial towers in the world. Some of the best views can be seen from the small Oak Point State Park on the opposite side of the memorial across the marina.
