Backyard Miracle: Sept. 3

After finding a sunflower patch on yesterday's walk - just about the first I've seen this season - imagine my disbelief when Jack said this morning, "Did you see the flower in the back yard? I think it's a sunflower." Turns out it's not "a" sunflower - it's probably closer to a dozen! They sprouted almost overnight, the fruits, I'm guessing, of the sunflower seeds we tossed out for birds. One is in bloom, and the rest - including today's photo - aren't far behind. Very soon we'll get more topsoil dumped over them to finish covering the hole left by the rotted swimming pool, but until then, methinks I'll be looking for sunnier skies and as many photos as I can get!
