I had really good intentions of getting lots of work done today -- at least until I learned the temperature could top 90. Speaking frankly, that means, sans central A/C in our house, that I hit shrew mode by noon at the latest. That, in turn, prompted my husband Jack to steer me to the air-conditioned car, then to an air-conditioned pub for lunch and a couple of icy beers. The pub is Up-a-Creek Tavern; my One-a-Day group photo for today is the outdoor patio where we usually sit except for days like today. I could practically see the heat waves rising up around those umbrellas.
