Walked in the door from finally having an early morning cool enough for a walk to spot a big box filled with a dozen beautiful, fragrant, long-stemmed red roses -- a week-early surprise from my sweetie for our 48th anniversary on Aug. 18. The backstory: Our friend Jerry's Rotary Club of Niles happened to be selling them at just the right time, so Jack ordered them unknown to me and Jerry delivered them this morning. It's a lesson in keeping secrets as well, since we spent last evening at Jerry and Barb's house enjoying a wonderful dinner and nobody uttered a word!
